nominate Rhode Island women promoting solutions to improve the lives of women, girls and people of color

YWCA Northern Rhode Island has been a voice for women and a force for change for over 86 years. YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA Women of Achievement Awards are recognized nationally as prestigious awards for women. They recognize the best in the accomplishments of women across industry, culture and public service in local communities.

criteria. Women of Achievement have made sustained commitments and promote solutions by showing vision, creativity, determination and initiative. They have achieved outstanding success:

  • demonstrating exceptional skills
  • as a leader, role model or mentor
  • breaking new ground or old barriers
  • as an agent for positive change
  • by inspiring others

eligibility. A nominee must:

  • currently live and/or work in Rhode Island
  • be a female adult
  • consent in writing to the nomination and publication of her name/photo/narrative in connection with the award
  • be willing to participate in media activities including photo session to be scheduled prior to Friday, September 11
  • be available to attend the 5th Annual Tools of the Trade Luncheon at Kirkbrae Country Club on Wednesday, September 30
  • Note: YWCA membership is not necessary to nominate or receive YWCA Women of Achievement Awards

deadline. The nomination form and attachments must be received by 5pm on Friday, August 28.

selection process. An independent selection committee will select the award recipients from the qualified nominees in YWCA mission and advocacy categories: eliminating racism, empowering women, promoting peace, promoting justice, promoting freedom, promoting dignity, improving access to healthcare, increasing women's income, protecting from hate crimes, strengthening affirmative action, and supporting anti-violence policies and/or programs. The committee will review all nominations and follow the standards set by YWCA Northern Rhode Island. Nominees may be asked to supply additional information if warranted. The committee reserves the right to move nominees from one category to another, as deemed appropriate. Awards will be given in each category unless, in the opinion of the committee, no award is merited. Judges' decisions are based on the information specified and submitted in the nomination package. The committee reserves the right to check nominee references and confirm all details provided. All decisions are final. Nominees and nominators will be informed immediately following the selection meeting.

recognition. All nominees are recognized by YWCA Northern Rhode Island. Winners are announced to the press and honored for their accomplishments at the 5th Annual Tools of the Trade Luncheon at Kirkbrae Country Club on Wednesday, September 30 (ticket complimentary).

tickets and opportunities. Award luncheon tickets are available. A portion of each ticket is tax deductible (approximately $30 per $50 ticket) and proceeds benefit YWCA Northern Rhode Island. helping hands. To thank a special friend of YWCA Northern Rhode Island, a helping hands presentation will be made to an organization, business, volunteer, member, employee of the year, person in public service or a woman in legacy.
